She has taken me from darkness into the light

in just one week but oh what a flight

be careful I said for she may be just like the rest,

and only wanting me to test...

I thought...Like a skilled surgeon with scalpel in hand,

she can make mincemeat of any man...

I peeked at her through the ramparts of the fortress I had built to protect me from storm and thorn

An angel I saw.. she looked so forlorn

Who are you? I asked, Do I know you? are you the vestage of some Karmic debt unpaid

because my bed of pain was still unmade..

this woman who has taken my soul and cradled it with loving arms

wanting only to put my fears and heartaches to rest...

I thought, because I was blinded by a love so new..

.the hounds of hell could be wating on me to chew

Don't you recognize me? I am she...who made your spirit leap with glee...

Nah...I said she is sweet and wonderful sunshine and it has just rained here..piss and vinegar...

I warned you she said, I am human just like thee

here, here is MY heart for you to see

I looked hard but could not see these damed walls were so high I had to get out my binoculars...

but sure enoughshe had laid open her heart and I saw it was she...

I shouted down to her yes you are my shadow woman but if you are truly her and not some long awaited, and promised flashback from my college days...

then who was the bitch that just pissed on me?

then it hit me that she really was human too

and not the etherial creature I had made her out to be....

I sat there stubborn..picking out a tune on my trusty guitar...then I realized what song I was playing.....

"Desperado...when will you come to your senses..you been out riding fences for so long now"..

.duh...hello...I raced with winged feet down about fifteen stories...(dam Wally, how did these walls get so high?)

flung open wide the doors to my fortress of solitude

.........and let her in

With a nod to "Eagles"

This was compelling, Walt, and I liked the magic realism in it - flickering images of the real and surreal juxtaposed. And all wrapped in the mystique of the fortress setting. You share The Eagles gift of story-telling, for certain sure! TY Kate x

"Desperado" is one of my favorite Eagles songs. Actually, I like all their songs and I grew my path along their lyrics. Today is Bobby Zimmerman and his new CD "Fire on the Mountain"...Bob Dylan.

Your poetry is awesome, Walt. I am humbled and in complete awe of your style ,gifted with the pinache of experience, ideals and characters afire.

Thank you for allowing me to notice a good writer and bring him to the surface. It's a wonderful pleasure.

May you now leave that unmade bed to the ghost of the past and create a new abode on the first floor. Ah, yes, I think we all know that song well. Lady J

Glad to hear your fortress of solitude has been opened, Desperado!
And I've always liked that song.
