We are poets
We scale mountains high
We live among the wind that blows the clouds around.
We are poets.

We care not for convention, we are poets.
We seek, we tell.
We try our best to convey a message.

A message with words that painters seek to convey with a brush.

We are poets.
We paint with words.
We differ only in a medium.
We are poets.

Once a painting is done it is worthy of praise.
But really,
Once a poem or a painting is done it's done.
I go back and edit, but only to a degree.
Artists go back to fix stuff as much as we do.

If what I write doesn't please me,
How can it please my readers?
Don't give up, you are not lost.
Remember.......You are a Poet.

"...message with words that painters seek to convey with a brush..." and you are painting with your words a very understandable admonition.

Yes you certainly hit the nail on the head..I really believe that you cannot help but be a poet, it becomes so much a part of you that it's like breathing.

Walt,
A wonderful poem that I've often thought to write but never did. I'm glad you wrote it. I've always been very proud to be a poet, I got the talent from my Mama who sadly passed away before she was recognized as a poet in her own right. Yes, we do paint with our words, sometimes vibrant colors, sometimes grey. Excellent poetry, Walt. One I will keep in my library.

Blessings+

You are only a poet. If we poets would only read and understand that simple statement and realize that what we write, however grand we may think it is, is merely a poem we would not harbor such ill will with the world for not recognizing our brilliance. We all, no matter what genre of poetry we write are trying to woo the readers to "our" way of thinking whether we write soppy love poems or street-level, gritty attacks of this or that, we want to be understood, and yes, loved for our . . . brilliance. We are so ego-driven we lose contact with the world at large at times and wonder what it's all about, Alfie. Still, we write. Still we publish. Still we eagerly read the praise of our devotees.
