I was Young Once, Danc ing on the Edge

Young one
so fearless
nearer that edge
I was fearless, once
I once was young

I tempted fate
hanging high on
that edge
of life and death
so I say; today
I will take no risk

I have seen
from down below
the undercut cliffs
you dance upon
so fearlessly

So, I shall
look…………….. away
dance,dance dance
I shall sit
and drink my tea
if by chance
or ,should it be fate
you do not return
I will cry for help
sound the alarm

but I know
you are gone
down
into that icy water
on the bottom of that
glacier  pond

Your pack I will return
to your family
and I will remember

The time, when
 you danced
dancing so fearlessly on
that edge, and when I
was once a

Me...I don't care too much for edges...
Love the double meaning and message of the poem...

Stan - Enjoyed your poem and its profound message. Made me think of the edges I danced on, too. - David

Again, Stan, your writing grabs me.
The edge is always out there, not easy to resist.

anachronistic. .. .
the edge as a allusion to every tempting thing, every dangerous thing, every daring thing a soul can want. .. .
this actually amde me feel despair. hmmmm.. ..

I love this! And I remember... I was young once too.
