This how they get their thrills in them thar hills!

Poem Artwork

Smoke and mirrors, and elation in cremation!

There was laughter all around

The stuff now stacked

Rocks lay on the ground

But then the stiff they brought

And he was nicely racked

Without an other thought

Strong believers in their heart

As he’d told them so sincere

That from them would not depart

To burn his body without fear

He the leader of this gang, now still and hard

Depart his body with a bang, with all his friends so near

There where seven holes in all

He’d stood to bullets near

Then on his face did fall

His enemies did sneer

Now, the cowards had the gall

Yet in life him fear

There were stalks in pots that had been cut

Some while ago, by vandals we presume

We garnered all the lot

It had been there since June

Every hole we filled and every crack with pot

This fire would burn till noon

At midnights moon he did request

Dramatics he loved most

Fulfill the deed he had bequest

And friends to drink a toast

They started early the brew to test

And drank to his last post

Yet when the match was struck

Silence spoke aloud

Just one, sue gave him a tuck

Some cursing he did spout

The five leaf clover stacked tight and snug

With thunder roared aloud

Ringlets of smoke from his bullet holes did curl

It did consume him fast

Yet no one dared give him a twirl

All waiting till the last

What’s the matter girl?

Sues hand begins to tighten looking all aghast

A twirl of smoke now rising up

Dancing like a snake

Mike just dropped his cup

A figure with a cape

He shouted what the f…ck

Full of fear, awake

All eyes now focused with magnetic stare

And sure enough there was an arm

Reached out and touched sues hair

It touched her cold and warm

She screamed into the air

At once last all her charm

There was a common shudder

Silence, but Sues shriek

Not one, a word did utter

All felt sick and weak

Their knees as weak as butter

No one dared to speak

A voice then said, arise my friends

He climbed out from the fire

I told you this was not the end

Put me on that pyre

The cloak as black as sod and coal

Still glimmering of deep red

A voice as deep as Satan’s soul

I’ve risen from the dead

There stood this dark foreboding figure whole

Like iron cast in lead

You all thought this test I’d fail

His bony hands he stretched

Sue began to wail

Her stomach wretched

You see I did prevail

In grim relief their faces etched

They’d heart of Sam McKee

How the heat had brought him back

But this they’d never see

Ed apparent gone to the sack

Hollering to beat all hell with glee

Knocking over a hidden rack

This diversion held their stare

They clearly now could see

Some contraption was laid bare

More than one but three

And now a lasers flare

They ask what this could be

First sunlight streaked across the sky

Some smoke and ashes rising

Slowly dawned on them the why

Seeing things, was not surprising

Ed had spooked them on the sly

Rolled in sleep disguising

From all that pot you were so high

The whisky and the gin

High enough to fly

I couldn’t loose but win

Laughed long enough to cry

You all owe me a fin

Yeah, I told you that some day I would, and you said, that I could never

Scare the shit right out of you

Then you said that no one could, and that I was not that clever

And for my bet I now do sue

Then all my ties will sever

Admit you never had a clue

He drove away the hearse

Laughing all the way

Now money in his purse

In back they stood like clay

Him laughing, singing, deep in mirth

This was his lucky day

Those that have the last laugh are the ones that laugh best!
A very creative one this is, done with a sharp pen from a very sharp poet.

To have the last laugh [or word] often feels good. But, this poem feels even better because it is soooooooo clever.

God bless you. Kathy
