With an inseam of twenty five inches, it is hard slugging through two feet of snow! Francine just send that picture of tracks I had left some time ago when the weather was still nice.

Two feet deep!

Boots twenty inches up the calves

Just below the knees

Stuck in snow and split in halves

One inch clearance underneath

One inch to spare between the seams

Twenty five in all the length

Where legs do part like beams

If I have the strength

One lonesome trek through drifts of snow

Just one leg at a time

All is white, where else to go

Straight ahead just fine

Havoc the blowing banks so deep

Can cause a gnome to trek

Deep enough to weep

One inch to spare between each leg

The ravens circling up above

Wolves waiting for their prey

If I not through that snow does shove

Or more snow me now delay

But just that thought  imparts some thrust

Move forward leg by leg

No matter carry on I must

Still my little birdies beg

Stuck split leg deep now in snow

Reach for my pockets deep

Fly right over, for me, they know

And thank me with a beep

You’re welcome little friend I say

I’m stuck here deep in snow

Just a half of me now on display

While you fly to and fro

  My fine feathered little friends

Give me a lift, I dare

Or this is where it all ends

This ends tomorrows fare

Sweet songs they whispered me instead

And cheered my mellow mood

Those lift my legs that felt like lead

And lifted every boot

Hostage to the little lot

They knew they would enjoy

To feed them on the spot

All their wiles they did employ

Now that I’m free, on trotted path

Homeward bound another day

Survived another winters wrath

Come back tomorrow for more play

I hear their song still in my ear

The feet my fire warms

They wished me on with so much cheer

And all their little charms

Tomorrow I will try again

To help such thankful friends

So much love from them I gain

God knows where it all ends!

If every one of us had just one ounce of your determination and compassion, I know this old world would be a much better place.

Around here...no enough snow yet to start complaining, but the small birds are flocking on our veranda to feast with slices of bread and bowls full of assorted korns.
Warm winter, who need that sickening cold?
Take care and stay well
Georg

Oh boy do I remember those days. Still have my snow shovels too, one of those things I cannot part with. Anywhere I go, those snow shovels come with me....Love your passion in this one...

Be safe,
Karen
