Whether or Weather patterns!
The weather was balmy warm for a winter’s day
Along the path now bare of snow
I slowed my pace along the way
There from the rivers edge, a lake, an overflow
A detour I decided would bring me near
All the stations
To those I hold so dear
Climbing over rocks and brush, felt a new sensation
Deeply now in new terrain
Sinking boots in muck
Soaked from top to bottom now in rain
Every boot and every sock
Up to my knees now not in snow
But in a hidden lake
Neither back nor forward go, this was a hoot
White covers where just a fake
And with a thud I pulled my boot
Laid my rump over a stump
And then became unglued
Up and above I climbed, a soaking lump
A two foot wide dead tree it wooed
Dressed in snow and slithery moos
Finally set me free it would
There now I stood and breathing deep and at a loss
How further to proceed
The glittering surface down below
Some anxiety indeed
And much apprehension sow
A helping hand a dogwood bush
Would balance my domain
I moved a foot you heard a whoosh
From speed I would abstain
Slowly on that slippery log
One foot at a time
Trying to avoid the bog
Dark and dreary brine
Looking twenty feet ahead
A balanced person would have said
I shall turn back instead
I am already wet
That boyish nature long forgot,
It dared me all the way,
It put me on the spot
Called it mere Childs play
Never could resist a dare
The devil me not shame
For my pride I would care
Not too old or tame
I said and off I went
Weaving back and forth
My will this path would bent
Just keep on going north
Tense moments did ensue
Here and there a slip
Determined tough to cheat this brew
Very careful not to trip
Deep within that forest clearing
The road I could not see
And as the end was nearing
Was not a mount but sea
A snow bank had found refuge
Raised from that end on high
But at the other end a subterfuge
More water there did lie
All this effort now I thought for not
What to do go back or forth
Can’t stay forever on this spot
Neither way a pennies worth
Much time had passed and soaked me to the skin
I grit my teeth and took the plunge
Soaked now from without and from within
I should have had a hunch
While standing there midriff in swamp
Held hostage by the sea
A bird from branch to branch would jump
It was a chickadee
I guess she thought before he drown
I’ll help him with his weight
On wet food will not frown
Sat on my hand and ate
She herself was soaking wet
She did not mind her fate
Not water found a threat
Came back to me and ate
Politely I said my friend
I’ll put some food, for here I cannot stay
I want this not become a trend
She smiled and flew away
Soaked to the bone now homeward bound
I leave my friendly calls
All I am sure they’re food have found
I’m soaked right to the balls!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
I'm sending this to my brother Matlack; he could sure learn a thing or two, from you!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
Living in Tornado Alley, I am dreading the approaching spring weather season; we get our worst storms in the springtime--and NO basements or shelter to go to! Having been in three tornadoes already, I am MORE than ready to move to ALASKA, where the ONLY storms there are MAGNETIC (i.e., the Northern Lights)!!!!
Now I know why the boys shrink in cold water...
Don't let it to be a pattern either.
