Disgusting!
Disgusting are the thoughts that come to mind,
When legislators are so blind,
And so the Senators of their kind,
Not their heart and soul can find,
The purse more quickly has in hand,
Their heart to understand,
Together all they band,
When it suits their stand,
Big and little critters no concern,
Just humans their respect do earn,
Protective legislation they do spurn,
When will of love, they learn,
It seems if you don’t vote, or can’t
Of no value to the land,
Except the dollars for their hand,
No legislation needs demand,
A hundred years or more,
Old legislation has in store,
Want to leave it as before,
Same means, the ox to gore,
Cruelty, then had other meaning,
No room for softer leaning,
New thought, and knowing preening,
While their legislation scheming,
Such effective laws as animal cruelty,
Would hurt business you see,
On land or sea,
That could never be,
Earning bucks is more important tool,
Then being some kind-hearted fool,
Will cost the industry, its money pool,
The law will stand, although, it's cruel,
You’d think that some at least or so they claim,
Hard work and education bring them fame,
Yet you’d think it taught them shame,
When little critters maim,
Yes it’s you that bring them harm,
That cruelty not disarm,
The law with legislation arm:
From cruelty takes away its charm,
Slaughterhouses, cattle barons, factory farms,
Puppy mills, abandoned animals, in fields or barns,
Or on streets in houses, or anywhere that harms,
Any creature should raise alarm,
But alas, this kind of new age vision,
With the greedy, find much derision,
Will surely delay decision,
Make laws bring cruelty to oblivion,
All these stars, and all this learning,
Not an ounce of soul is yearning,
Please their egos credit earning,
Just popularity discerning.

Would hurt business you see,

You've sadly summed up our modern world quite correctly, my friend. Animals can't vote or contribute huge monetary amounts to our politicians, so most of our politicians simply ignore their plight today.
But they also ignore the sad and cruel and apathetic world they will be leaving to their own children and grandchildren, a legacy I truly wonder how they can live with. But I guess fame, power, and fortune have no soul.
The human race little y little are being taken over by a subrace that only obeys to greed and an evil atavism form where nothing is sacred.
The day they see the light...it will be the fires of Hell.

It's time to flood your government officials with e-mails of contempt for their decisions. Sheesh, even letters from out of your country might make them take a different stance on the matter.
Get all the e-addies you can find, and write up in your next blog or poem. Certainly worth a try. I weep with you on this, Jasmin Horst.
