The new kings!
Back in time forever,
Few kings, like Solomon,
Charlemagne, and Wenceslas,
Where wise and kind, and clever,
Not ruled for their own sake,
To sack the riches of the land,
But lead their ragged band,
Their heavy burdens to abate,
Their stature not for sale,
To highwaymen and dolts,
To lesser gods of time,
Not poisoned drank their ale,
How times have changed,
No kings we have,
No more of honour,
All is mighty rearranged,
The highwaymen now rule the land,
Some have fancy names,
Like President, or Prime Minister,
But truly rule they can’t,
Favours pay the piper now,
With bagpipes of ill tune,
Lead roving bands of poor,
Free, they think themselves somehow,
Take back, o common folk, the glittering crown,
It’s not of real gold,
It’s false, and base,
Surrendered to a clown,
Take back your freedom so hard won,
From rogues, of, ere times pass,
Take back, that which is yours,
Your vote might be your gun.

So profound and true. And how sad we let these "important" people rule our lives. Beautiful.
