For my friend Ed and his priceless heart!

Homeless!

Why, what possible reason could there be,
Aside from lack of compassion,
Or mental bashing,
Set an innocent critter, among the wild and free,

That only just an hour before,
Its little meal with joy had eaten,
With raised tail and purr you be treating
When from your work, come to the door,

Thankful and with love is purring,
As you hold her in your arms,
To treat you with her charms,
No devious thoughts in her are stirring,

How possible how, unless of heart and mind forlorn,
This trusting and depended creature small
Rob it of its trust, its home, and its all,
Throw it to the wolves, of all life’s comforts shorn,

No different if you took your baby, Jennifer or Gus,
Drove down the country side, then laid it in the grass,
Stepped back in the car, and drove off with much gas,
In a hurry to get away, from your child and conscience thus,

Not equipped, by love or care, or other training,
Fearful, cold, and hungers pain,
No means themselves sustain,
All alone, and strange, no way could, for help be claiming,

Can’t believe such beings could exist,
To be so cruel, so mean, without a heart,
But yet, there are, I’m told, that in such acts take part,
Of them, I’m told, there is a long, long list,

And yet there are, some like Ed, and Sue,
Those rescue some from cruel fate,
Before their maker have a date,
Some, that Angels work will do,

God bless you all, forever more,
Those that act, and do and share,
Those that will no effort spare,
True treasures up in heaven store.

How abysmally true, and how we human beings can do such things, is beyond me.

And Bless you for what you do to help them, like chasing after that abandoned little dog. The abandoned ones are the ones that always break my heart, and I hope I can catch Little Jack, and somehow convince him that we are all not so damned ruthless and cruel.

For years I couldn't take off of my head the picture given by a little notice on a newspaper about somebody putting seven new born kittens in a sack and throwing it in a stream.
My God! and we call ourselves "humans"? sapients ones?

It's an ignorant mind-set, Jasmin, where people with these pets see them only as purring, tail-wagging decorations which may be tossed out with the trash when their presence becomes inconvenient. I do not ever have pets; I have small loving friends who are members of my family; part of me. We do what we can because others do not.

You passionately bring out some great points. Tis true that mankind abandons its own, so no wonder pets too. A sad world we live in.....

Be always safe,
Karen
