Ludwig von der Pfalz!
A wonderful being a wonderful friend,
Only eighty, when his life did end,
But his spirit, it is so bright,
On darker days gives me delight,
No never close we were, but close at heart,
Sweet precious times in laughter share,
In drink and song and gentle mirth,
Remembering, such joy it stirs,
Forever we’ll be young at heart,
Of joy and goodness never part,
The time we shared, and life we toasted,
In precious youth, our prowess boasted,
Thinking of his pranks and misdemeanours,
Spanish fly put in our wieners,
Such errands he did well,
His face would never tell,
And when with luck and heart of gold,
He stated loud and bold,
He did what he did do,
So much laughter had he drew,
The nobles of town, major, and city council too,
And many Judaism’s Jew,
When asked, why he did, what he did do,
I just did, what any good Christian, sure would do,
A proud example of the year,
Next year’s questions they would fear,
Citizenship or other,
With silly questions would not bother,
Such was this and many more,
His wit and humour I did adore,
Happiness and joy he brought this world,
And so much love he had unfurled,
Blessed and thankful of such grace,
In my heart, he holds a special space,
Now, in two worlds is his cheerful reign,
And all the hearts that he laid claim.

Probably your friend is looking down from wherever he is and smile.
