This man of national iconic stature, his wit and acid tongue even I admire, but last night on national TV came out in defence of the governor generals actions, I was appalled to say the least, and much saddened, that this human genius with capacity of logic and verbal talent, could not use it to defend those that cannot speak at all.
His national and local fervour took no prisoners and verbally shot his arrows in all possible directions wherever animal lovers especially those that would dare stop the seal slaughter, I am sure if you are really interested, you can find him on CBC broadcast.
As to the easterners especially and the far northerners my apologies, for not all are like that, and there are some very prominent residents who will speak out against the so called hunt.
And to newfies' in particular the term was used only to fit in with a certain rhyme, and not meant derogatively in any way, for I love easterners as much as everyone else, and been there a million times to enjoy their hospitality, thank you, but this persistence to make this a national issue, with an exuse for a hunt and survival, is as fake as defending it.

Verbose and twitty,
This newfie witty,
Wish though that his tongue,
For those without, would speak as strong,

I would not question that his tongue and wit,
A mile of poison arrows spit,
Yet direction takes their aim,
At those that not to blame,

Now you’d think, a man that smart,
Would also have a heart,
Stand up to those that make a living,
In cruel manner unforgiving,

No one questions that they should,
If as Inuit they would,
In fairness only take,
That would their hunger sate,

To defend atrocious acts of murder,
To hunting, is to say it kindly, err,
His tongue in nationalistic fervours heat,
With all the platitudes replete,

Soon though he forgot, and was so proud,
His ladyship from the hip would shout,
But he forgets conveniently
She must of prejudice be free,

Her shoe be on the other foot,
And saying different as she would,
That newfies’ were insane,
That island for themselves to claim,

I mean just for sake of arguments degree,
With her would not agree,
I truly think that’s where they should be,
And leave the rest for you and me,

Not that I don’t love them sweet folk in the east,
But I wish, of fishing make their feast,
Would not defend a practice cruel,
And make all us southerners a fool,

Sad so sad I am, that a man with so much talent,
Such cruelty he would defend,
Instead that acid tongue of his would use,
To stop the slaughter and abuse.©

Speaking out of both sides of the mouth is typical of the profession, Jasmin. Many a soulless wonder is made from politics. Someone may start with an idealistic quest to be of service and then become the product of the machine. Ugly it is. Great write...

Guys like you have to keep speaking up, Jasmin, or the cruelty and crude barbarity will continue. I don't get to see all about this where I'm at, but I see enough to know you are a fundamental in your quest..........Jerry

Jasmin, the politician is a breed apart in that they have turned their lies into truth in order to get elected, and cannot be trusted no matter what they say! Sad truth! Excellent poem!

ah, man! My dear Jasmin Horst, in addition to your sad and eloquently put point you touch on something fundamental: intelligence not used for a noble cause can do horrific harm...

Good points here. I have two sudden thoughts. 1. our polar bears are starving to death. They eat these critters and so they should. 2.politicians should not be paid til the end of their term in office and the amount of remuneration is then dependent upon the value of their contribution.

Man craves for be in a position of power, and when he finally reach there, the only thing he doesn't use are his brains and his powers!
What a waste, politicians should be shot at the end of their periods.

Visions of A Skylark Dressed in Black by Aberjhani
