Hands still trembling reaching,
Searching, blind oblivion,
Dearth of kind souls walking by,
Skyscrapers reaching for the sky,
Darkness in the midst of light,
A little doggie to her right,
Some rags and pennies and cold ground,
Glum are both, not make a sound,
Patrons at the bar, Christmas cheer,
People, parcels all around,
Christmas paper, her coloured rags,
An array of paper bags,
She folds her hands around the pooch,
Trembling hands, a tear,
Tight holds it to her chest,
And with a kiss she’s blessed,
Forlorn the lonesome corner now,
Here and there a noise,
Still now, midnight near, empty streets,
Just another night, without some treats©05/12/2009
