funny, funny little guy.

It’s been years,
Spoiled, are my sparrows I fears,
Very, very, spoiled indeed,
Organic peanuts do they eat,
Live on the sunny side of the street,
In the vines near the house the bittersweet,
There they make a racket arguing amongst them,
I swear, they do too,
No matter what I do,
They own the place they think,
They know they’re living in the pink,
Served meals two times a day,
Why would they go away?
In any case this morn, I slept in late,
But then I brought the food upon a plate,
The door pushed open with my foot,
To bring that plate of food,
What do I see upon the post?
This vagrant bird, assaults the host,
Enraged and bitter that it was,
Of course I knew the cause,
The language you should have heard,
And stern demeanour of that bird,
The peak was pecking at the empty space,
Where usually the food I place,
Head cocked to one side, and the look,
What the matter with the cook,
It was saying I know it was,
What’s the delay, what is the cause?
I know it was cursing me out good,
Every word I understood,
I placed the goodies, as I always did,
Two feet away he was, still giving me some shit,
So I looked at him and said bemused,
I feel I am being used,
Be thankful you little two thumb tall,
You talk mighty big, for a guy so small,
But then I laughed, and laughed for hours,
Thank God, I don’t get this also from my flowers,
Tending them, for days on end,
Much tender love on them I spend,
They intern they smile and tickle my senses,
Even those across the fences,
I went back to their roosting vine,
And yelled I’m glad you’re fine,
But here a thought that came to me,
You got it all, and yet you’re free,
You’ve crossed the species line I think,
Ungratefulness must be the link,
I too, I often do forget my bliss,
Forget that all I have is his,
And loaned in happiness and love to me,
I myself, in you do see,©21/01/2010

Jasmin you are a hoot and a holler!;-) This is hilarious, but I also know sparrows can be little devils! I read where it was said, Sparrows were sent to bring souls to heaven. Something to ponder!;-)

Love and hugs,
Eileen

A delightful write, Jasmin. English (House) sparrows can indeed be very cheeky. Love and peace to you,

Maybe they were just trying to save you a step or two, you know, out of respect for age. Birdies are a natural source of joy indeed. But gourmet peanuts??? I'm coming to your place for snacks! Patrick

Such a good write, I could invision the cries of injustice from the birds and the silent contenment of the flowers. I remember in winter up north the birds did get to depend on the feeders being full when there was to much snow on the ground and boy they would let you know when it wasn't...love this today. LadyJ

The sparrows around here are a bunch of happy fellows, and they never decor my car paint job like those seagull and juvenile delinquent crow.

They own the place

Wow - Gourmet Food, including organic peanuts. They do own the place! And I sure hope my sparrows don't read this - they only get regular seed and peanuts.

a couple weeks or so ago the snow sleet & rainyness
frooze over...and that means all the food I placed out
for them...serveral sparrows were pecking at my windows
I was like "what on earth is going on?"
I go to see & seen the freeze out & they couldn't get to it...
coincidence...maybe...but they are pretty clever if you ask me
