Do you feel, at every bite? does your heart, not just your stomach talk to you? Are you aware, fully? can you change to stop the pain?

I ask you, do you feel,
Can you see their eyes?
Looking back at you,
With every other meal,

Do you really know, down deep?
With your heart and soul,
Not just fill the stomachs hole,
It’s not an object that you eat,

Think it through, and meditate,
Once, living beings just like you,
The ones on which you chew,
A moment’s time in life to sate,

Pleasures all too often do,
Bring others pain distraught,
Kill their lives and loves,
Know this, on that do you chew,

Invent a master’s touch of taste,
Just try and see if not,
Put love, not pain, in the grilling pot,
This not, another life does waste.©25/06/2010

You give us so very much to digest Jasmin! Strong, provocative poem!

You "speak" of a universal and timeless theme, Jasmin; truly an uncomfortable dilemma. Personally, I wish I did not have to eat at all. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

Regis

Well said Jasmin. I'm not likely to give up meat, but I can certainly reflect on its origin with more respect. Patrick

The thought was about the torture millions of species of animals endure, in factory farms, etc, be that comfortable with your soul, and to Georg's thoughts, but we don't trample on his lettuce leafs month before we eat it, we nurture it gently, should we not do the same for species that are much more aware, that is if we have to eat meat. Look your meat in the eye, before you kill it, not all nicely wrapped as an abstract of that it was and is. Awareness is what it was about, we all to often forget when we fill our gut, especially when we celebrate this sort of death over a glass of wine. More approbiate would be the piper and a lament, in my opinion anyway.
Bless ya all! Jasmin Horst

Alas, if my wife and I went completely meatless, I would still have to feed meat to my many dogs and cats. Although dogs are omnivores, cats, by nature, are strictly meat eaters, and they need meat, to survive.

After reading The Life of the Plants seeing from a neurological point (yest they hear, bad and good vibrations, they feel tender touch or aggressive ones) that I feel guilty biting on a lettuce leaf!
But I catch your drift...

This is something that bothers me a great deal, Jasmin, a sense of shame and guilt that runs over me... I wish I could be vegetarian, I really do.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
