This is a true event which happened in Cappawhite, Ireland on the 17th Jan 1921
Those dark fearful days, back in Irelands past
The Devil glared down, and a curse it was cast
This small divided country, of death and decay
500 policemen, with their lives they would pay
One of those policemen, was constable Robert Boyd
Threw into a conflict, he could never avoid
When the IRA attacked, he fought them all night
As they surrounded the old barracks, of Ireland's Cappawhite
Ten months as a constable, far from his home
Then into Margaret Morans pub, Young Robert did roam
He played with her niece's, his back to the door
Four shots rang out, Robert Boyd was no more
So they brought back his body, to the town of Banbridge
Where Robert was born, and his family still lived
Far from the deed, of that dastardly night
Far from the small town, of Irelands Cappawhite
So they laid Robert down, into his early grave
At twenty four years, his young life he gave
But the battle raged on, hundreds more were to die
While the widows and children, at home they would cry
Now its ninety years later, and peace comes at last
So we must put behind us, our lands bloody past
The fighting and killing, each man must avoid
So no more men will die, like constable Boyd
Bloodshed is a horrific price to pay for peace. It is done in Ireland, but rages on in many parts of the world. When will all this end? The loss of life surely brings the families much pain and anguish. God bless those whose life was lost in the name of peace!
