My mother was a friend of mine.
A closer friend, I could not find.
She was older when I was born
and I'm sure I was a handfull for her age,
but she hardly ever gave me scorn.
We did many things together,
cooking and canning to tide us over
through the cold weather.
She always looked after me
and made me feel as loved as I could be.
We were so close, and being her daughter brought me such pride.
I surely thought she would stay longer by my side.
She meant the world to me and I was only twenty-one when she was taken away from me.
Her love for me was oh so dear
and I still can feel her presence near.
When I think of my childhood, she fills most of the space, and when I think of my mother's love,
I can still see her face.
She was so gentle and so kind and easy going as could be.
She had some hard times with bad health and then she was set free.
I know that now she is with God.
She's in a happy place and I thank him for his saving grace.
