This poem is for my beloved cat Boots

My Cat Boots

Boots, my kitty girl,
Oh, how I miss you
since you left this world.
My sweet little kitty.
Oh, what a pity.
The time you got to spend
with me was so short.
It was fourteen years
but I would have liked more.
My tears fell for days,
from missing your earthly body near,
and your eyes looking at me with your loving ways.
Some people thought you were mean,
because they were not keen on how cats
react to some people they have never seen.
They didn’t know that you was just afraid of them,
and that is why you acted that way.
You couldn’t talk to them,
so you didn’t have a say
To me, you were the sweetest cat,
who was by my side whenever I sat.
You cuddled me and sat on my shoulder,
when I was lying down to rest or read.
You seemed to always know
the closeness we shared,
was all we would ever need.
You were my companion and my friend.
Though you are not here,
our contact with each other did not end.
You visited me right away,
after your spirit left your body
that heartbreaking day.
Your little shadow
walked up to me.
Oh, what a warming sight to see.
I hear you talking in my ear,
to give me guidance when you are near.
Some people think that cats have no soul,
but I know better,
and in fact that you do.
How could you be in heaven if that wasn’t so?
You came back to tell me that all is well,
and the visits we share is your story to tell.
You said I shouldn’t mourn you,
for you are still around.
To be with me always,
and bring my life meaning, healing, and peace,
and keep my feet walking on solid ground.
