The meaning of the wake up call

The Cry of the Rooster

The cry of the rooster woke me up this morning -
After getting up, I couldn’t see any rooster calling
I kept hearing the rooster, as if it was next to me
I remembered the sound which comes from afar

The sound was soft like the breathing of a baby
I felt that the sound was not here and not there
I remembered the words of a German lady
“Versteht man’s oder versteht man’s nicht” she said

Those words resonate constantly in my ears.
(One understands it or one does not understand it)
Adding to that, my father’s words fill my ears:
“Talking with someone who does not understand,
shortens your life.” To this, adding the wake up call
Which surprised me as it sounds very familiar
I plunged again into a deep sleep till the next sound,
For which my inner “ear” is always waiting.

Emile - Liked The Cry of the Rooster, perfect image for the "wake-up" call. I liked the way you ended this poem by waiting for the next significant sound,

I plunged again into a deep sleep till the next sound,
For which my inner “ear” is always waiting.

Hmm... I am not sure I am one who understands it or not... :~)
A thought provoking write, my friend! One which I will mull over and consider for some time.

Whether it be a rooster or a songbird, Someone is trying to tell us something...and we should be aware of our thoughts or other's words revealed to us the day/night before we slumbered. Again, most thoughtful words you share with us, Emile...my thanks...

A wonderful poem. I can identify with this one because I have awaken to the call of a rooster more times than I can count. Growing up on the farm was a kind of world in its own, and no one ever needed an alarm clock. The rooster struck the chord of a new day, calling for all to wake up and LIVE!

What a wonderful write my friend...many images crept through my mind as I read and re-read this compelling write. I imagined the words of the wise being whispered in your ear, how the sounds of the rooster brought those words back to life! Advice from the past...I'm not sure if I'm on the right track with this one, but I will leave your den today with a feeling of appreciation for past advice that I have recieved and cherish within my heart, an appreciation for things that go much deeper than what they seem, I will also be reminded of my own grandfather's advice that he gave to me for various situations, cliches and just his thoughts each time that I hear the roosters on our farm crowing....Enjoyed this deep and heartfelt write very much! Well done dear poet!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

When that rooster doens't give up with plenty of garlic, with potatos, sliced tomatoes with olive oil salt and oregano and a chilled case of Coors, you will feel better and next morning your coffee will taste better in that silent morning.
