The author tries to distinguish between the intellect and the soul

As I See It

The intellect is a good tool,
It should not make of us a fool
It is adapted to life on earth
It should be taken at its worth

If we let our intellect wander
The risk is, it will get us under
And make us lose our feeling,
The link to the source of healing

We should control our intellect
and learn what we should select
Remembrance leads us to our goal
Awakens us and our sleeping soul

We can feel our life's source
Let yearning take its course
Touching the ocean of love and joy.
Deep in ourselves it may deploy

Only experience forms our soul
Suffering and wellbeing tell us all
Not everyone will be revealing
Their deepest faith and feeling

So true~ It is that inner light that truly guides us, and not our intellect. It is when we believe we know too much to be guided by that inner voice that we get into trouble...

The soul says, "go for it!" as the intellect warns, "your ass is on the line!"
Soul is something that can be fed with emotions, Intellect just needs a few slices of challenging pizza.
But, what I am saying? that's a dime's worth of bad philosophy!
