I haven't ever heard this saying before... but I can see the truth of it.

I have never heard this saying. Upon reflection however, I think that for the most part, it is accurate. In economic terms and considering the rate of inflation over 30 or so years it was probably much easier to feed ten children than it is now to feed 1 person, the father in this instance. In addition the use of the word "cannot" is important to the meaning as there is a great difference between "cannot" and "will not." I can't say I have ever heard this saying Emile but I would think a father's love for his children is often stronger then the love of the children for a father. Thank you for sharing.

In old Germany it was a saying "A father maintains ten children better than ten children one father" which is the same proverb.
Applying it to today will be an hopeless philosophy.
