The Tuna Fisherman
The fisherman’s story I will tell you
The way I heard it from the sea so blue
He was poor and worked hard, but he had enough
Because his wife was unfriendly, stingy and rough
At night the poor fisherman went to bed without food
As seeing her would upset him and do him no good
Tired from rowing and burned by the sun
He slept like a baby till the next day begun
Happy and joyful the fish seemed to be waiting for him
In no time the small tuna fish filled the boat to the rim
At sea, the good man felt always happy and dreamed
But seeing his wife made him feel miserable it seemed
As the season went by, the little fish started to worry
To be nice with him, they found a solution in a hurry
The younger fish said “At first we will all disappear,
Let’s see what his wife will do when we are not here.”
The fisherman dreamed and went home empty handed
His wife gave him a hard time, as soon as he landed
Not seeing any catch, she made him a suggestion:
“I go fishing tomorrow as starving is out of the question”
The fisherman so happy and joyful, agreed
In the morning she went fishing, hoping to succeed
All the fish of the region came to see his wife, like a horde
Just by seeing them, she was scared and went overboard
But the gentle fish didn’t want her to die
They pushed her to the shore where it’s dry
Finally, tired she understood that fishing is not a game
Tormented, empty handed, she went home just the same
Furious and sad she went straight to bed like a pole
The fisherman started to sing the song of the fish and their role
Finally his wife was happy not to have to work, as a duty
Ashamed, she apologized and took better care of her beauty
Since then the fish came every day to the boat to be caught
So the fisherman and his wife were no longer distraught
The little tuna fish sang and danced for the fisherman, their friend
While he continued to dream in his boat, and that’s the story’s end
