About meeting someone and seeing the sparkle lost from their eyes, that is what this poem is about.
Hello again,
I think I know you.
It is something
Around the eyes.
Hello again.
Have we met?
I can see it in
The way you move.
Hello again.
I recognize your face.
And you know I do.
Goodbye again.
I see you walking
Away.
I memorized the back
Of your head.
Goodbye again.
Your voice is now silent,
But I remember every word.
Goodbye again.
Your eyes are disappearing
But I remember what I saw
In them,
It is the innocence lost of a child,
One who has grown up,
Way too fast for their age.
Your eyes do not sparkle,
As they should for someone your age.
You have no dazzle in your eyes,
Like I see in others.
I am sorry.
Or, should I say, "Welcome to the club?"
