This Poem is dedicated to a special poet from long ago!!!

There was a very young man
who fell in love at first sight
at the tender age of nine
to his beloved Beatrice one night.

He loved her from afar
for the next nine years of his life
dreaming and wishing
that she would become his wife.

The only contact that was made
were simple greetings in the street
never getting to know her well,
nor face to face they would ever meet.

He became a flourishing poet
with the thoughts of Beatrice in his heart
that came to be known as courtly love
with his vow of love till his depart.

In the name of this love
he gave his imprint to the Stil Novo
which led many a poet to discover
themes of Amore! (love)

This poet was the great Dante Alighieri !



Author's Notes: Dante Alighieri, The work, LA VITA NUOVA (1292) , celebrated Dante's love for Beatrice. The nature of his love had its roots in the medieval concept of "courtly love" and the idealization of women. Even though he wrote during the thirteenth century, you can feel his work deep in your soul. He was deeply moved by Beatrice, even though he never really got to have her. A tribute to a great man.
