"The Spirit of The Old Woman"(Karena
Series)

by Amber "V" Moonstone  4/06/08

The morning hours linger,
We travel as quickly as we can,
The children are very hungry,
What little food we carried is gone.

I am aware of another village in the distance,
We shall make our way toward that camp.
It is my hope to find food and lodging.
The great Eagle Spirit will protect us.

As the afternoon sun begins to radiate,
we approach the village with caution.
There is no one in site.
The villagers have left everything behind.

I will find food and water,
and a few hours of rest,
but the spirit of Tomas says to keep moving.
I can feel evil spirits present, we must hurry!

The children are playing,
I am pillaging food and blankets.
I hear a cry from within a shelter,
to my amazement I find an old woman.

She is ill and crying for the Great spirit
to take her from this place.
"I am Karena, Eagle Medicine Woman"
Let me give you some healing energy.

She looks at me and begins to cry,
I touch her head, and begin my healing.
As I close my eyes, I see a vision,
She is flying toward the Great Spirit.

The Great Spirit calls for her,
It is her time to go to the other world.
I comfort her, hold her until she is gone.
I feel her body go to her final rest.

The spirit of this old woman,
lingers in my soul and gives me strength.
I find evidence that she was

this tribe's medicine woman!

As I gather up a few of her belongings,
I begin to feel empowered
by an amazing white light,
It radiates through me towards a pathway
to our journey to freedom.

We follow this white light,
until the twinkling of the stars
shine like diamonds in the sky.
I feel safe, full of hope and joy.

Traveling by starlight,
we feel illuminated and safe,
knowing that we are protected
and watched over by many spirits.

The road is long, the night is cold,
my children are warm in their blankets,
as we move along with a steadfast stride.
I am saddle sore from riding.

Come Sunrise, I shall find a stream,
for us to bathe in,
To wash off the road dust and fatigue.
It will be a refreshment that we all deserve.
