Shore Of Contentment

Tenderness surrounded my body
Dreadfully tired and exhausted
I fell upon the bed anxious to fall asleep
I was listening to a book on cd.
The first track played as my mind drifted
I was asleep in two minutes.
During the night, I awoke
went to the bathroom and went back to sleep,
It was during the second stage of my sleep
that I began this dream.
I was on the beach, alone, sitting at the waters edge,
my head upon my knees, gently crying.
I was thinking of how lonely I was,
when a flash of lightning startled me.
I was not afraid, for there was not one cloud in the sky.
I felt a sudden surge of electricity flowing through my body.
I stood up and looked toward the ocean's horizon.
I could see the other shoreline, that often haunted my dreams.
Somehow I knew you were there, watching me.
I began to swim toward your shore.
I swam for what seemed like hours,
when a boat came by and offered me a ride.
I gratefully accepted, and off we went toward the shore.
I was exhausted from swimming, but also excited.
We docked and I walked toward the area where I knew you would be,
I was right, there you were sitting on your shore in the same position
that I was, when I left my shore.
I came up and stood behind you.
This was the first time that I actually felt your skin.
It was warm, soft and inviting!
You turned and saw me,
and pulled me into your lap.
I was startled at your reaction,
but very happy to be in your arms.
I touched your face, your tatooed arms
and pressed my body closely to yours.
Something drew me there that day,
as always, I knew where my heart belonged.
Right there in your safe harbor,
upon your shore of total contentment.
