Rendevous

From the darkness,
you peer across the sand
straining to see.
how the blackness of the ocean,
illuminates your mind,
with thoughts of awe
and rememberance of days gone by,
when you were young and vibrant.
Wind chilling your weary bones,
winter has begun,
but the ocean remains the same
as if it were that same dark summer night.
Years have passed since you were to see her,
the dark haired beauty,
standing on the shore waiting for your arrival,
the rendevous that never transpired.
You were delayed,
couldn't get out of the airport,
missed your train,
never arriving on time.
Heartbroken, she left for the countryside,
never to return to the rendevous point,
never to know what happened to you,
never to forgive you for breaking her heart.
Now forty years later,
you try again,
but she isn't there,
she hasn't arrived.
The beach looks the same,
the wind feels the same,
as that fateful night that you
showed up ten hours too late.
As you turn to walk away,
you hear your name being called,
a young girl runs toward you,
She tells you that her grandmother has just died.
You fall to your knees,
and weep for all the lost time,
your second chance now has failed,
and the beach looks the same...................

Be well, live long, laugh often, and never look back... unless you're writing poetry, which of course you cannot help but do well.
