Days of reflection can produce interesting results.

Sunday Best
by Amber "V" Moonstone
9/16/12

You put on your face,
hiding all the blemishes
that the years have caused,
Looking sadly happy.

Sunday, a day of rest
comes every week,
ending the weekend
while you put on your best.

The week begins,
you smile and go through
all the motions that you dispise,
only to end again with your Sunday best.

Each week passes,
Each month drags,
before you know it
another year has passed.

When do you stop,
and not hide your best,
can it only be

When you are laid to final rest?

Amber when you write something so melancholy I know you must be in pain for you are always so positive. Sometimes a glimpse at the pain will be the greatest poetry you ever write because it reveals the depths of the soul.

There is a crowning irony here that coalesces in a bleak kind of poetic justice that is acutely blind to the erosion of passivity. Your poem implodes with full force as the sibilant of life comes into a final fricative contact with its "t"erminal stop. Sound and sense combine with full force to make this a dazzling diatribe on the dangers of ennui and mediocrity. Meddlesome! madame! Very Meddlesome!

A poetic descent into darkness, sadness here, written very effectively!
What feels really good every day is a bright red dress with polka dot stockings.
Blessings xo,

We should never "pretend" to be something we are not
It isn't healthy as you well know. "Each month drags,"
as your own body drags and your chi no longer flows
and you are out of balance within yourself

Excellent description of all the emotions that can
drag you down not being yourself.

Wave after wave, life goes on and on, always looking new and fresh to you, inspiring you to face the challenge and move on again to tacke a new one. If you are a poet or a writer, the situation is worse. You won´t get rest till you are laid to rest. Always a pleasure to read you, Amber.

I got off the Sunday band wagon many years ago and never looked back. We tend to get so tied up in rituals that we can't see where we're headed. Your poem seems to cry out for a change that only you can make and is really quite easy.

sunday being a day of rest is a fairly recent idea anyway, and the older we get the faster the time seems to fly, unfortunately we spend most of our time either gaining sustinence or using the sustinence or resting to gain it again.

Somber, moody and sad poetry you have given us this Sunday morning, or maybe it is "your best." Life, when you really take a good look at it is not all that much to cheer about. I maintain that this whole business of life could have been thought out a little differently by the mastermind who gave it to us.
