I received an e-mail today, And it made me think back a bit; To times of happy memories, And to others the flames had licked.
It’s amazing how one can dwell, On all the things that have gone wrong; While forgetting the pleasant times, That help to make each other strong.
But I guess that is how pride works, One person always trying to blame; The other for all that has gone wrong, Lies of the heart, do weaken and shame.
My friends, I am far from perfect, I can’t even begin to say; The mistakes I’ve made along my trail, But the path was simply not one way.
If I were to say it was eighty-twenty, The lies would be from my own heart; The roots went so very, very deep, I wouldn’t even know where to start.
For whatever part I may have played, I admitted, confessed then moved on; But another still dwells in the past, Denial is like thin ice on a pond.
It will only support you for so long, Before it begins to weaken and crack; If you’re too far out in the middle, There’s no way you’ll ever make it back.
All your friends back on the shoreline, Know there’s nothing that they can do; You placed yourself in that position, All long to help but won’t drown for you.
I would like to help you out myself, But then again, I know I’d be told; That I'm as wrong now as I was then, Besides, that water is stagnant and old.
Just another walk through a valley, Watching for stones thrown on the trail; What a crazy, weird, wonderful life, Where so many win while others fail.
Why not turn your problems over to God, He restores many souls everyday; To live in the past is so very sad, Get on with life, it’s the better way.
I thank the Lord for my many blessings, Still, they are much more than I am due; They are signs of His kindness and love, And are freely offered to me and you.

This is a beautiful poem with a very inspirational message. The lies we tell ourselves can scar, but once we learn to accept ourselves and place our trust in God, we are better able to manage.
Thank you for this well-composed poem.
