One day some people took notice
The Old Man was losing his grip
Huge stones around his foundation
Seemed like they were starting to slip
His neighbors came to the rescue
To keep him alive is what they craved
His spirit was a part of them
They knew the Old Man must be saved
They shored him up year after year
Many with a tear in their eye
Thinking of how he would be missed
If they just let the Old Man die
But on May Third, Two Thousand Three
The whole mountain began to shake
The Old Man was slipping away
As his high perch began to quake
He held on for all he was worth
But still the rocks began to slide
Not a soul saw the fatal fall
When the Old Man took his last ride
When daylight came with the sunrise
The man wasn't where he should be
Broken rock and an empty ledge
Was all that there was left to see
No one needed to lower their gaze
To know that all that remained of the Man
Were pieces of rock by Profile Lake
All cried and mourned the loss to their clan
Yet his spirit will forever live
In the minds and hearts of those that know
The body crumbles but not the soul
As love for him continues to grow
For those who will still stop and look
At the place where he used to be
They'll still see him there plain as day
Just the way God planned it you see

I IMAGINE THAT THIS WAS LIKE SOMEONE SLOWLY DYING. YOU KNOW THEY ARE GOING...BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS YOU ARE STILL HEARTBROKEN. THANKS FOR SHARING, PAUL...WELL DONE! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...
