Not all our troops are called VETERANS

Hi everyone. Boy, it's good to be back.

I started on this poetic story before Veteran's Day hoping to post it on November 11 but I just never got to finish it. This is for all the unrecognized Veterans, our countless, unknown troops who fought in wars that will forever remain unknown, un-named and unremembered. They could not wear a uniform or even be called an American soldier while out in the field on an assigned mission. For if caught; and many were; they were labled, charged and tried as spies. Many rotted away in prisons only to wonder why Uncle Sam never came to their aid or even admitted that they were in service to America. Even their families never truly knew what they were up to as these non-soldiers made up some crazy and zany stories to cover their real where abouts when they weren't at home with their families. A "mission" could be as short as a few days or sometimes weeks and even months long. Being on call 24/7/365 they sometimes had to leave their families at the drop of a hat. They had their own motto too....

ASK ME NO QUESTIONS,
I'LL TELL YOU NO LIES.

This is for them. God bless.

Call him Captain America,
All American as they come;
His life has never been easy,
And for sure it wasn't much fun.

The secret life that he has led,
Has brought him where he's at today;
All for his country and for God,
He wouldn't have it another way.

Recruited right out of high school,
God, that was a lifetime ago;
Trained in how to lie and to kill,
Sent to places he did not know.

His life has never been his own,
Yet, it was the one that he chose;
Things done for the sake of freedom,
Horrors done that no one can know.

Looking back now he's wondering,
If it really was worth it all;
So many hurt along the way,
Just because he answered the call.

For those he loves can never know,
All the terrible things he's done;
Places around the world he's been,
Each small battle that he had won.

For family, country and God,
Done to keep old glory alive;
All the times called away from home,
So the land of the free would survive.

Along with all of her freedoms,
Given us by the grace of God;
Still, each time that he went away,
All of the lies were very hard.

Simply an unrecognized soldier,
The Veteran's badge he'll never wear;
Yet battle scars he proudly carries,
From each small war that he cannot share.

A great poem Paul! It says it all. Some of us don't think about the secret life of our veterans, and donot realize the sacrafices which were made. It was all done to keep freedom alive . Thanks for writing and sharing this gem!....M

Paul,

In the field once more. A good soldier never dies.

Thank you for thinking of those who live on forever.

~Donna.

To me, one day spent in service to our Nation should be recognized as being Veterans. They are, to me. God bless 'em, every one - and their families - and you, for bringing their stories to light - well done, Paul.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
