Let's face it my friends, we all love to get reviews. It's not why we write, but it does matter. It's simple human nature to want to receive just that little bit of praise from our peers. A little vain maybe but we all have a little of that trait in each us. The trick though is to give and take. It's what makes the world go round and round. Let's face it; time is a valuable commodity for each and everyone of us. But even a simple review of just one word may make a world of difference to writer. Thank you all for reading. Each one of us needs the feedback,
'What does my writing mean to you?'
So we leave little messages,
In the form of a brief review.
And time is a commodity,
At least, I know it is for me;
I try to review everyone,
As a matter of courtesy.
What does reciprocation mean?
Some, it seems, don't get the idea;
You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours,
Been going on for thousands of years.
Just something we need think about,
This simple matter of courtesy;
Not a written rule or a law,
An agreement of sorts, if you please.
Yet, a matter of principle,
Of how much one may do for you;
Expecting nothing in return,
Often, that's just what one does do.
But at some point, the buck must stop,
When one doesn't give tit for tat;
For right is right and wrong is wrong,
Hope you understand where I'm at.
And sometimes we all get an itch,
That all by ourselves, we can't reach;
This write isn't a reprimand,
It's just a simple way to teach.
That one good turn deserves another,
And courtesy is a two way street;
Works in every aspect of life,
Reciprocation can be so sweet.
But when this thing doesn't happen,
It's more like a slap in the face;
Let's show each other due respect,
One huge family in this place.
I agree with you, Paul. Sometimes just one word is enough to "make one's day." I endeavor to reciprocate always and actually, I write many more reviews than I receive. You are right also in mentioning time. But one word is all it takes. Personally, I value suggestions and constructive criticism. Thank you for this "up and up" reminder. It does seem like it should be a common courtesy "RECIPROCATION 11" however we know it just does not happen that way.
As a matter of fact I have wondered if some think it will prevent another from continuously posting, but as you have stated that is not why we write anyway. What one could assume distasteful is how instead of just reciprocating one will just send you a lengthy message and or nothing at all...however it happens.
We all know that it could be almost impossible to answer or either review everyone but the beauty is trying to make an effort.
If I had a penny for every review given out I would have thousands by now of the one's not reciprocated.
Nothing to whine about but it would seem professionally common courtesy, nonetheless, reviews received are appreciated.
Wonderful that you have heart enough to address this matter in a professional fashion at that.

Well said, Paul, and I do agree. I don't post many poems any more, but I still read and review other's works--not all of them, but as frequently as I can. I always try give more reviews than I get back, and when others reciporcate, I am appreciative. A good write.
You're right Paul. I wish I could be here more and leave more reviews. Lately in this past awful year I've been lucky if I could even write some poetry to post. I can well understand the frustration.
