I still think of the old village,
Our old home on the river bank;
Those memories of long ago,
Remind me to give the Lord thanks.
In that house two lives were conceived,
True blessings sent from up above;
But we didn't thank God enough,
For those two precious gifts of love. The Marsh where we used to ice skate,
The little town beach; its huge dune;
The places where we used to park,
Sharing God's love under the moon. Poplar Road was like a cow path,
Yet, to us it was "lover's lane;"
"The Poplars" facing the river,
The Pachecos could be a pain.
The Village school with its playground,
We'd bring the kids, have a great time;
Life was very simple back then,
We had it all, back in our prime.
Forever wasn't meant to be,
We should have known that long before;
Nearly ruined two innocent lives,
All for the greed of wanting more.
So, we went our separate ways,
Thank God my memories live on;
Seventeen years of happiness,
Two fools who thought that love was gone.
Thank God, He doesn't sleep at night,
The Lord plucked me out of the ruins;
He granted me a brand new life,
Once more, to love under His moon.
But, the Village will ever be sweet,
Within the memories of my mind;
Our family and friends on High Street,
It wasn't all bad, life was just fine.
Our memories are with us forever, good or bad we have to be thankful for they are part of who we have become.Great write Paul. I tell my children all my memories are precious to me and I am thankful every minute to God above. I would never erase one thing about my life as it is all a part of who I am today. Great write.
