To Please Another Start Within

Had some deep thoughts about life and happiness this morning.
Don't mind me, just rambling.

Tell me when we got to the point,
That we forgot just how to live;
Show me where it says that it's wrong,
That to ourselves sometimes we must give.

There's no way to please another,
If we are not happy within;
There's no way to reach any goal,
If with ourselves we don't begin.

Yes, it is simple common sense,
Happiness begins in one's soul;
Don't wait too long to please yourself,
For one day you'll find you've grown old.

And by then it may be too late,
Contentment will bring sweet relief;
So work at making you happy,
For life on Earth is very brief.

This is true wisdom, too often we are taught to forget ourselves and make others happy, it will inevitably backfire if we neglect our own happiness.

Amen!!! I love this poem. I have felt what you are saying here, Paul, much stronger since my brother's death, and this poem is the truth laid bare, whether we are ready to admit it or not, this isn't a dress rehersal :) Blessings, Michelle

i think the youth of today have a natural market on self-gratification.....wonder what their take on this would be 30 or 40 yrs from now...advice of the opposite?
