My young son and I were talking,
About the real meaning of love;
About what a great gift it is,
Lovingly sent from up above.

Love has to do with sacrifice,
And simply showing that you care;
Material things mean nothing,
If true love's not already there.

Just caring and understanding,
Being somewhere because you can;
Calling up on the telephone,
Or gently holding someone's hand.

Some people buy love with money,
Much sadder though, is some accept;
But when the money is all gone,
Then one really has nothing left.

Give me God's love over money,
I'll take love over silver or gold;
Money can't keep you company,
Or give you a hug when you're old.

I've seen money do awful things,
Like tear apart a family;
The love of money can corrupt,
I know for they happened to me.

A million dollars can't buy love,
God given love just can't be bought;
Though it may gain you attention,
It's not the true comfort you sought.

I'd like family to love me,
Not because I can buy them things;
I'd like them to love me for me,
For contentment that true love brings.

It was our Lord who showed us how,
How to express Heaven sent love;
That is what love is all about,
God's greatest gift from up above.
