Life is much like the open sea,
To large ships we're but a boat;
Moved by wind, current and tide,
Doing our best to stay afloat.

Yet each day we get up and go,
Bravely set our sights out to sea;
Sometimes not a welcoming task,
  Still we set our backs to the breeze.

Doing our best each new day,
As we try to follow God's plan;
And if we should flounder a bit,
It's because we are simply man.

All the while that we're on the sea,
Hunting that far distant shore;
Helping others along our way,
Those who have but a single oar.

That's what this life is all about,
Sharing all we have with friends;
Telling of all God's promises,
Until we dock at our trip's end.

Just a speck on the horizon,
As we continue on and on;
Sailing away into each day,
  And by night all could be gone.

We're only made to sail awhile,
Upon the surface of the sea;
The day'll come that we cast off,
And sail into eternity.
