Hardly a day passes me by
When I don't think of the Old Man
The lessons that I've learned from him
Wisdom that was part of God's plan

A scene now only imagined
High above the small lake below
A sign unlike any other
Placed up high so that all would know

That in this small New England state
Up in the mountains God made men
Settlers came from everywhere
To make that great image their friend

Surrounded by many wonders
Viewed against the clouds in the sky
Stood a face bold and beautiful
Brought tears of joy to many an eye

With pines swaying gently below
Birds floating on currents above
You could feel the Old Man's essence
Filling your heart and soul with love

Was called a silent philosopher
Though never known to utter a word
But as a teacher I knew him well
Within my heart his lessons I heard

I don't believe that it was nature
That placed him up there for us to see
It was a power like no other
T'was God that gave us the right to live free

So just rest in peace, teacher of stone
Much of what you taught has been learned
For lessons you gave me along my trails
A special place in my heart you've earned
