New Hampshire is filled with wonders
Huge boulders and rock formations
Some with very distinct features
With others you need imagination

Yes, the Old Man was quite distinct
No question about that at all
And he's been very sadly missed
Since the day that he took his fall

His home was on Cannon Mountain
Which in itself is one huge stone
And it resembles a fortress
One cannon was close to his home

The Old Lady sits to his north
Some have said that she was his wife
And not a word has she spoken
Since the day the quake took his life

Boise Rock lies way down below
The place that was the Old Man's home
It's been said that it saved a life
A simple shelter made of stone

Dewey Rock is up in the north
It resembles the Admiral
He's at the top of Artist's Bluff
Hope this one never takes a fall

There's the Sleeping Astronomer
He can be found on Three-0-Two
Reclining he watches the stars
This one is quite an awesome view

The Martha Washington stone head
Looking downstream just to the right
From the bridge on the Ammonoosuc
George's lady is quite the sight

Then of course there's The Shining Rock
Just hike up Falling Waters Trail
It looks like a giant mirror
Long as the spring waters don't fail

And there is the Elephant's Head
It can be seen in Crawford Notch
Its head's coming through the forest
His trunk and all; I kid you not

There's Pulpit Rock on the east side
On Carter's Dome you can see it
Partly detatched from the cliff face
It does look just like a pulpit

There's a stone that we call The Sphinx
Can be seen along the Sphinx Trail
'Tween Mt Jefferson and Mt Clay
A short ways up near Gulfside Trail

Let's not forget the Imp Profile
This one's up in the Carter Range
Best seen from the Dolly Copp Road
This human's head is very strange

Two massive step-like terraces
These stairs gave Stairs Mountain its name
Though not as well known as others
Giant Stairs might lead one to fame

A king's head seen from the Glen House
The Lion's Head, as it is known
Was once called St Anthony's Nose
On Route Sixteen near the Auto Road

And then there is George Washington
A great boulder, it's quite the rock
His profile is on Thorn Mountain
Tho it looks more like Alfred Hitchcock

Look for the Duck Head on the spur
By the side of the road near Jackson
Can be seen from the nearby pastures
Sitting atop Iron Mountain

Still I haven't told you of all
The rocky profiles one can find
Like White Horse Ledge and Table Rock
So many it boggles one's mind

Davis Boulder and Goodrich Rock
Glen Boulder and Cathedral Ledge
Madison Rock and Index Rock
Can't forget the Indian Head

Then there's one known to very few
I'll just call it The Monkey's Face
Just try to find him if you can
Near Jewel Hill he marks his place

Of course there's America's Stonehenge
In the southern part of our state
So many things for one to see
But don't wait until it's too late

We can't be sure when they may go
Like the Old Man they too could leave
But memories never go away
For those lost we will ever grieve
