A tale about the Old Man of the Mountain in New Hampshire
Hardly a day passes on by
That I don't think of that Old Man
All the lessons I learned from him
Lessons that were part of God's plan
His face now only imagined
High above the valley below
A sign not like any others
Placed on high so that all would know
That in the state of New Hampshire
In the White Mountains God made men
Visitors came from all over
To make that Great Profile their friend
Surrounded by nature's wonders
Viewed against the blue of the sky
He stood so bold and beautiful
Bringing tears to many an eye
As the pines swayed gently below
Birds floated on currents above
All could feel the Old Man's essence
Filling their hearts and souls with love
He was a silent philosopher
Though never did he utter a word
But as a teacher we knew him well
Within our souls his lessons were heard
No, he wasn't an act of nature
She didn't place him up there, you see
A power like no other did that
As God gave us the right to live free
Now, rest in peace, our teacher of stone
Most all of what you taught has been learned
By those who truly care for this land
A loving place in our hearts you've earned
Like the drive-through tree in the Sierras, I missed the Old Man. But that I missed a lot of the wonders of this great country and hope to see them on the Internet or television as time goes on.
