God, can You give me a moment
Right now it's Your guidance I seek
Our first child will arrive real soon
The labor signs have reached their peak

Dear God, grant me a loving heart
Also an understanding mind
Throw in a bit of humor too
And all the patience You can find

I'm going to be a father
And this is our very first child
Looking at parents I have known
It may be crazy for awhile

It doesn't matter if this child
Comes to us as a boy or girl
I will do my best to make it
The happiest child in this world

I know it's not an easy job
But I believe I can do it
To raise this child with faith and love
I'm eager to get down to it

I promise I'll give it my time
To show it Your stars up above
Teach it all Your lessons in life
To fill its small heart with Your love

Any man can be a father
Whether they're good or very bad
But it takes a soul that's special
To become a really great Dad

That is what I pray to become
Exactly as You are to me
I could use some help while learning
God, help me be all I can be

Dear Lord, please grant me Your favor
Guide me as I work at this task
Correct me should I lose patience
Right now, that's all I need to ask

I know as this child grows older
There'll be so much for me to do
So God, should I have more questions
May I bring them all here to You?

I'll teach this child to know Your grace
