I went to the big lake tonight
The one called Winnipesaukee
Sat down in soft grass by a beach
To simply enjoy the scenery

The sun was down low in the sky
It's heat just beginning to wane
The soothing sound of tiny waves
Was starting to ease some of my pain

I put a rough day behind me
Once I heard the loon's lonely call
Looked to the mountains far up north
With their sharp peaks standing so tall

On the beach children were playing
Oblivious to my day's plight
The sun was sinking lower still
Ushering in a new twilight

The pain in my hip was easing
I was thinking rationally
The day was coming to an end
I prayed I would sleep blissfully

I took my cane and hobbled away
Then quickly stopped, looked up in the sky
Said a prayer of thanks to our Lord
I had no thought of questioning why

I had chosen to stop by the lake
It was completely out of my way
He brought me here because He had known
Was His comfort I needed today

 An Indian legend comes to mind
As to what Winnipesaukee means
"It's the place where The Great Spirit smiles
Where many a soul The Spirit cleans"

Thank You Dear Lord for taking my pain
Of Your sweet love I will never doubt
You sooth and You heal in Your own time
Proving what faith and trust are about
