thin sheets
of you and i
i can see your face
through mine
and we spread
rainfall on the sunsets
when we open our mouths,
if we open our mouths this time,
searching silent lines.
Must we realize
the breadcrumbs
have all been eaten
by the black-winged birds
still seeking,
and we've left no trace
for we were just sleeping,
wrapped in nature's greying lace
the edges at our twined feet,
and bound as one to earth
too long to venture home?
I thought I dreamt
but in color saturation
with my handprint on your heart
and you still smelled of freedom
and the lilacs that you gave me
were whispering to the stars
I laughed and told them "Quiet"
though i really meant go on,
since night was still exploding
and the moon was on your arms
I saw myself within them
these memories were alive
your hands on stems and petals
on my waist and blackest eyes.

That last stanza is killer intelligent, soft, and fantastically vivid. It reminds me a bit of Blake (one of my favorite poets)-- and I noticed you had a quote from him on your bio. The poem works-- the rythm, the slanted rhymes, the visuals... it just works. --Charlie
