Barn Down The Road

Inspired by a painting

before nights were long and i suffered the quiet of autumn

with smiles of sour apple red and dual blushed cheeks

wet grass tickled the soles of our feet in a strange rhythym

as we slow danced with denim and velvet rubbing together

our hands moving to feel heartbeats through thin soft cottons

in the barn down the road sang the music of blackbirds

where wings were guitars of a fluttering operetta

and i snuggled within the black wilds of your chest

while i closed my eyes and pretended  i didn't see you leave

when the music stopped and the rooster sounded morning

relax into me and wander into being desired for awhile

pleasure frail as a robin's egg in the palm of my hand

opened out to you and the nest built from leftover threads

the things snipped off in other lives we live in by day

here where we rent happiness and reddest passions

this weathered blue barn by the mountainsides of distance

rolls by on the clouds with a thunderclap's insistence

to remind me of moments scratched into our destinations

it is a road we have travelled though never two looking

but to stumble upon tumbleweeds of longing's creations

a heart that is wrapped in a plain box with a bow made of twine

and the paper wrapped around it is tattered and brown

and it was of free will that i shared its opening with you

when the night settled in wearing a gown of pierced starshine

and the moon hung low above the barns we once knew

you have embraced the fantasy of purest love -- you have touched the heart of simplicity with a bold reach into sincerity -- marvelous -- JMW

I love the dream-like quality of this, Michelle. Very reflective and gentle in spirit and tone. The felt detail is wonderful and the fabric or tapestry of this is warm to the touch. The loose weave of the writing is wonderful for our own thoughts to be able to interweave and interact with your own. Has a fabulous, open quality and the mark of good writing (leaving out as much as putting in!) Inspired indeed! :)) xx

Rich in thought and imagery and with a natural poetic flow. This is fine expression.

So many great lines expressing intimate images here, "denim and velvet rubbing together"...a lady and a gentleman, "pleasure frail as a robin's egg" love and passion are often on the edge of hope, "heart wrapped in a plain box"...often the ones we least expect can love the most. These are all such great lines and when it all combines you have a masterpiece Michelle. Well done.

Parts of this remind me of Anessa Blaine's poetry. That's the best compliment I could give you Michelle. You just keep getting better and better. Paintings have often inspired my imagination to travel. Your poem has taken me on a new journey.
