Come on in, love and please sit here beside me

on this bed in my rose cottage down by the sea

though the sheets and the linens are threadbare

they’re warm and the stitching is all done by me

There are sweet things scenting the pillows and air

food baking and wild flowers strung through my hair

and although I am not rich in all kinds of material things

we can share nature’s subtlety and the joy that it brings

I don’t own a car or wear dresses from Vogue magazine

I don’t spend on things I don’t need with hopes to be seen

these thin cottons and old bandanas are just right for me

to create these few books, poems and drawings you see

There’s a room for me to dream and one for you as well

then one that we can share when we have secrets to tell

for this one man who holds all my heart in his big hands

far away from the world where there’s no more demands

Small towns, George Strait and a cat or two by my feet

a pretty garden out back with trees shading the street

sharing our cares, our happiness and even our fears

through sunshine and rain, and to kiss away tears

Yes, it is true as they say, the best things in life are free

when we ride off on a dream on his bike, him and me

happy to take just these few moments when we can be
