Listening to music and thinking again.... :)

A copy of the Catholic Bible laid open on a chair

two tickets on a westbound train heading for nowhere

dresses left in brand new boxes high upon the shelf

Grandpa’s guitar in leather case heading for great wealth

dreams of Shooter Jennings lying naked between my legs

praying real hard up to the sky for a land where no one begs

I can still smell the cigarettes as he sings his sad song to me

‘bout nights of passion in his arms that we know will never be

ruffling pinwheels in open skies still shifting all the dirt

a crucifix lies upon my chest beneath my tight red shirt

I believed him then but I still do though a shame it is to say

for confessions pass upon lucid glass you know that we replay

always then with an open door at feet like his I stand

sleeping restless once again saying prayers I can’t demand

sins and lies walk crooked lines thin with wear and hope

promised to you in other places well beyond our scope

good remains within the grains of time and sand, it’s true

then one day you find you pray for all the bad you do

barn doors will close so no one knows the way our secret goes

out in the fields where no one hears the song or how it flows

'Scraps of Paper' are like those memoires that follow us through life reminding us of what we wanted to do and should have done but didn't while doing those things we regret and can't escape. It's a song about life and "Grandpa's" guitar wants to play a secret melody.

your song of love, and lies is beautiful -- I heard it, "out in the field where no one hears the song or how it flows" -- much peace and love to you my friend -- JMW

I can see him taking one last drag
Before he puts his cigarette out
What he takes
What he had

I can see you croupling up those scraps of paper
A lyric never sung
The last bitter taste of his stained tongue
McCarthy/Lennon sang it so well
My . . . . . . .
That page flipped over to John 1:1
What He Takes
What He Has.
Greater than any woes.

And life onward . . . . .goes.
Some of us are slowly drowning in quicksand.
Throw me a branch
Or something on which to stand
Second chances . . . . .another plan????
Or am I left with only scraps of paper in my hand.

I love the images you conjure with this tale of whoa. Let's go back and do it all over again.

I've grown used to being "spoiled" by your expressive poetic style. Thank you, Michelle. Love and best wishes,

ahh but in the memories engrained on hearts
where love lives on and never parts
she and heat will frollic naked in the sun
in a place where promises have just begun...

Hope you don't mind my getting wrapped up a little in this one for it felt so real as if I were Shooter looking down from above and trying to communicate with her. This is truly great stuff Michelle and would also make some pretty kewl song lyrics. Loved it.
