will bells toll in the center of myself
all tatters then and yet poorer health
the sad day when you are gone from here
will i have said the things to you most dear?
will i look for you upon the darkest waves
washing up in your drifting grey boat
with long kisses i should have left before
when time was long and less remote?
i question then this purely selfish need
held in sandy seashells spread at my door
reminding me how only deepest love exceeds
the thousand grains of sand upon the shore
we wrestled then with far-off points of grace
balancing on the edge of faith and sin displaced
when the other's smile was enough to lead us home
carried upon the shadows of the skies we roamed
starfish and sand dollars open doors on endless seas
we scurry in before this shared blissful moment flees
you're my lighthouse when the swirling comes too fast
the beacon strong when the roughest winds do blast
yes, my only lighthouse, i run to you in a typhoon of night
my dear sweet lighthouse, you always love away this fright
clinging to your broad back when my sea legs seem gone
your simple act of shining makes the storms seem not so long

Outward the winds may take me. . .unknowingly
Homeward your sails . . .guided . . . cautiously
I may travel far
Fixed by the Lodestar
May you arrive near
By your beacon dear.
Shine On.
Absolutely a great poem, Michelle

Some effective images of the sea
and inner turmoil with the comforting presence
of hope.

Symbolic and oh, so deeply moving and meaningful, Michelle. Love and best wishes to you,

On a damp cool Spring evening, your poem made me think of a summer day in Cape Cod and imagined images of romance "Held in sandy seashells spread at my door". Then when the storms picked up I imagined the lighthouse beacon and your loved one guiding you through stormy seas. It's good to have someone to rely on like that. Very nice poetry!
An elegant poem of rich metaphor and symbol and your usual fine expression. It's good to see you back.
