A day like any other day, but different.
Pondering new directions for my life.
Thoughts on the path to self fulfillment
Taking form, but still just out of reach,
Like the flickering of a candle on a distant wall.
Changes involve risk,
And as my comfort zone rebelled at being stretched,
I suddenly became aware of the strings
That tied me to my beliefs.
A web of filaments,
Some stretching all the way back to my birth.
Multicolored.
Varying in thickness and strength.
A complicated web of my own making,
So interdependent
That disturbing even one strand
Sent ripples throughout the whole fabric.
The strings of Love and Spirituality,
Glowing like translucent pearls,
Allowing themselves to be stretched and redirected
In elastic freedom.
The blues, greens and golds of strings
Attached to empowering beliefs:
"I can do this."
"I am worthy of being loved."
Strings attached to beliefs placed by others...
Parents, siblings, teachers.
I accepted them as my own, blindly;
But some serve me not,
And only hold back my quest for fulfillment.
Ah, the red strings.
Thick , strong, and unforgiving.
Snaking out to the powerless beliefs:
"Don't try, I may fail."
"My feelings are not that important."
These red strings rebel when they are challenged,
And fiercely define the limit of my comfort zone,
When I would dare contemplate change.
But now I see them for what they are:
Self imposed boundaries that stifle my spirit and growth.
The extent I hold on to them
Is the extent I am unable to live in the moment,
And grow.
Awareness may bring understanding and focus,
But action takes energy and courage.
I choose not to be limited by my negative beliefs,
For to do nothing would condemn me to a prison of my own making.
