this was written about a 250 yr old turtle that died in 2005. I felt sentimental toward him...

What beauty have you seen? Many changings of the sky Two hundred and fifty years Slowly pacing by What wonders have you seen old one? Marvels beyond my mind Tell me all your stories wise one Were all of those years kind? Ninety thousand days Not all of them at peace No doubt you dreamt of freedom tired of seeing only knees What knowledge do you hide Beneath your heavy shell? A wonderful tribute to an equally wonderful creature of nature. The changes of the turtle's habitat over the span of 250 years would have left the turtle with a lot to discuss, if he would have had the means to do so. Then again, how much did he really see, considering the slow, carefree nature of turtles?
