Buried In Tin Cans

In a spartan way

I have amassed a vast fortune

of gold-dusted tears

stuffed deep in patched pockets...

buried in tin cans by the pond

where I dream...

buried beneath the lush carpet of ivy

yet to be pierced

by the longed for jonquils

with their promise of Spring.

They are hoarded and sewn in the seams

of my luminous armor...

not to be spent on frivolous whims

or flashed for the greedy world

to ogle...

and squandered not

on your leaving

What a personal, tender writing. The imagery in this feels beautiful and private. I like especially "not to be spent on frivolous whims." Lovely, Pat. ~~ Diana

Pat, Certain words take us there and closing words end it. Very well
written.

A very lyrical way of storing memories and holding them close until needed.

the theme of any poem - from
a can of beans in tomato sauce to
the fall of Troy - is always secondary to me
(although some themes are more interesting
than others, i admit); what really does it for me
is the writing, the way words are chosen and handled,
and here, Pat, words are chosen and delivered so well
i sit up and pay full attention - the most interesting poem
in a while

kudos!

Oh, great this is. No words wasted. Powerful message. Reconnection with one's roots or sources of inspiration, and lyrical. Everything a story poem should be.

Wonderful. Last two lines a perfect ending to the end of what was. Saving those "gold-dusted tears" for when truly needed, like when honest and true footsteps reopen your door.
