the glass door

he sits in his wheelchair
he sits there
and i see him stare
there, outside the glass door
searching for more
but what does he search for
what does he seek to see
but the world as it used to be

it's a clear sunny day
but to him, i feel,
it all seems gray
unreal
like a once eaten meal
a lost that can't be found
a far distant sound

he sees the grass, the trees,
the sky
and all the used to be's
and seems to question "why?"
it's all passed him by
in the blink of an eye

and then he'll eat
or should i say "consume"
biscuits, sausage & eggs
potatoes and meat
even then in his eyes he begs
for something not so neat
not so complete
waiting for his life to resume

he sleeps
with dreams he keeps
deep in his mind & heart
there in his own part
facing the finish, remembering the start

he sits there
and i see him stare
knowing not what nor where
lies out there
outside of his wheelchair
wondering
pondering
what's in store
is there more
beyond the glass door?

A painfully sad thought and tribute to your Dad, but he had his day, just as you will assume his place someday...maybe he sees what we cannot, his past, your family, you as a kid, we have no idea what he sees, as long as you are there for him now, he is at least more comfortable at home, never let him go to a nursing home, allow him his dignity right up to the end...Peace he will find, as will you...Ed & Rufuz
