tonight
today
i suggested, if i might,
a way
to pass it on
my dad & i
sat as we ate
christmas will soon pass us by
here's what was on my plate
there's a picture of mom & you
june, 1938
as the cover that would do
a story read, a story right, yup that wouold do
sometime
somehwere
you had the rhyme
to write what was there
histories
memories
a story told
about the families
young & old
give to them
young or old
we each get to hold
the truth about "back when"
share with them the story yet to be told
genie-ology
nephology
about the dead
and where it lead
to each there own
a seed that was sown
put a face
with a place
there in history
there in their memory
of them, you & me
so they can see
my bro
says "no"
what is the cost?
i ask, what is the "lost?"
nickles or dimes
old times
that are today
they still show
& know
forever & a day
my dad is 85
he will soon die
so this christmas
i guess i must
suggest
what is gone
pass it on
in pictures & words
no poetry
it escapes me
no rhyme
dad
you've had your time
so go on
dad, pass it on
time to say goodby
live or die
don't ask why
just
as you must
sing your song
